All four suites and indoor common areas are smoke-free. No open flames are allowed inside or outside of the Huyler House: this includes bonfires, candles etc. Be sure you are conscious of the hazards of using matches, tossing cigs, building fires, etc. Anything that can start a fire, especially carelessness, is not allowed. No bonfires, campfires on the beach, etc. Fire spreads pretty quickly out there in the dry summer months and can destroy the island!! Any guest found destructing property or causing harm will be removed from the island. A red fire alert flag from the SC Forestry Commission will be flown at the Landings Building to signify extreme fire danger. Please be especially careful during the dry time of year and discard any cigarettes or matches in proper receptacles.
Dewees will also fly a flag when there is a hurricane warning. Management will attempt to call all residences on the Island. At the time a hurricane watch is issued, everyone on the Island will need to evacuate and follow instructions from Charleston County.
If there is a medical, police or fire emergency, call 911. Charleston County 911 will alert on-Island and off-Island personnel as necessary. In case of emergency, there is a helicopter pad and a fire truck on Dewees.
When you call to make a reservation, a credit card is required to confirm your stay. We must receive notice of cancellation two weeks in advance either by email or phone (no messages). Any changes or cancellations at this time will be charged a $25 processing fee. Cancellations made less than 14 days before the first day of the reservation will be charged the full amount of the bill unless we can re-book the room for the same nights. You will receive a refund if we can re-book your room, less $25 processing fee per room booked. If we do not receive notice of cancellation, you will be charged for the full rate of the reservation. Dewees Island is not responsible for travel delays, health issues, inclement weather, or early/late departures.
